Just a few minutes from our Relais Alberti, beyond the shimmering lagoon, lies Pellestrina: a long, narrow island, much like the Lido, where time seems to move to its own rhythm. Here, among quiet alleys and colorful houses, life still follows the cycles of nature and the sea. Walking through its lanes, you can hear the call of seagulls, smell the scent of freshly caught fish, and listen to the gentle rocking of boats on the water.
Reaching Pellestrina from the Lido is already a small journey through the Venetian lagoon. The ferry that connects the two islands—accessible also by car—offers surprising views: stretches of water reflecting the sky, boats gliding silently by, and distant silhouettes of villas and lagoon gardens. For those who love walking or cycling, the paths along the lagoon turn the trip into a slow, contemplative experience, full of spontaneous stops and landscapes that look like paintings.
Once on the island, every detail tells stories of traditions that have stood the test of time: nets drying in the sun, fishermen at work, gardens scented with aromatic herbs. Here, you can truly experience the essence of slow travel, where the only rhythm is that of your breath and your footsteps on the stone.
The South Lagoon Museum
Among Pellestrina’s cultural gems is the small yet fascinating Museo della Laguna Sud (South Lagoon Museum), dedicated to the history, life, and traditions of the islands of the southern Venetian lagoon. Its exhibitions include boat models, fishing tools, historical photographs, and documents that tell the centuries-old story of the bond between the inhabitants and the sea.
The museum is open by appointment and, from April to November, every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00. It is recommended to call ahead to confirm availability and guided tours. The visit is suitable for everyone, with routes that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the daily life and traditions of the island.
Pellestrina is a hidden gem of the Venetian lagoon—a place to rediscover the pleasure of slowing down, savoring simplicity, and embracing the authentic atmosphere of an island that seems suspended in time. The museum adds a cultural dimension that further enriches the experience, making the visit not only relaxing but also deeply insightful.
