Libri al Borgo – Presentation of “L’Arte coraggiosa al Lido di Venezia”

On 12 September 2025 at 6:00 p.m., Relais Alberti in Malamocco will host the first event of the Libri al Borgo series.

The evening will feature the volume by Franco Tagliapietra, L’Arte coraggiosa al Lido di Venezia. Painters, Exhibitions, Palaces 1908–1934, published by El Squero (2025).

An art historian, essayist, curator and former professor at the Academies of Venice and Milan Brera, Tagliapietra reconstructs a fascinating yet long-forgotten season: the art exhibitions that animated the Lido of Venice between 1908 and 1934. From the first shows at the Stabilimento Bagni and at the Excelsior and Des Bains hotels, to the cycle of exhibitions of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation hosted in the Exhibition Palace built in 1925, the book restores the cultural and artistic vitality of the island in the first half of the 20th century.

In dialogue with the author will be Amerigo Restucci, architect, historian of architecture, former Rector of IUAV, and a renowned international figure.

The meeting will give the public the opportunity to explore the history of places, artists and movements that shaped the cultural panorama of the Lido, with references to leading figures such as Arturo Martini, Gino Rossi, Enrico Prampolini, Felice Casorati, Cagnaccio di San Pietro, Giuseppe Santomaso, Mario Deluigi, Afro Basaldella and Armando Pizzinato.

At the end of the presentation, guests may continue the evening with a tasting: one drink accompanied by five traditional cicchetti (€ 20). Those who purchase the book will be offered a complimentary toast.

The event will take place in the evocative Corte degli Agrumi of Relais Alberti; in case of adverse weather, it will be moved to the welcoming Sala del Camino, where Rosaria De Filippis will welcome you with ambient piano music.
