Farbensymbolik zwischen Kunst und Kulinarik: „Die Jungfrau in der Glorie“

The Sacred and the Profane Meet in Three Special Events on the Treasures of Malamocco

In the heart of Malamocco, a series of three special events brings together art, culture, and gastronomy, offering a unique opportunity to explore the artistic treasures of our village. On the occasion of the restoration of the 18th-century painting Virgin in Glory by Giulia Lama and a Gothic-Byzantine wooden altar frontal, both restored by SAVE VENICE, Relais Alberti presents a unique program that delves into the chromatic symbolism of these masterpieces.

In collaboration with Professor Daniela Simionato-Putz, each evening will focus on one artwork, beginning with a guided visit inside the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Malamocco, specially lit for the occasion. The tour will be followed by an aperitif and dinner at Relais Alberti, with a menu inspired by the colors and themes of the featured artwork.

The series, titled „CHROMATIC SYMBOLISM BETWEEN ART AND FOOD: The Sacred and the Profane Meet in Three Special Events on the Treasures of Malamocco“, will unfold over three evenings, each dedicated to an artwork and its symbolic use of color.

The first evening, on July 24 starting at 6:30 PM, will be dedicated to the 18th-century painting VIRGIN IN GLORY by Giulia Lama. The dominant colors of the painting—blue/light blue, black, and brown—will inspire both the guided tour and the evening’s menu.

Here is the menu for the evening:

Aperitif
– Crostini with sea bream cream and thyme
– Sardine skewers with lime and pink pepper

Dinner (served seated in the barchessa)
– Tuna tartare with rosemary
– Cuttlefish ink risotto with minty pea cream
– Monkfish bites „porchetta-style“ with yellow tomato chutney and garden green beans

Dessert
– Licorice panna cotta

Still and sparkling water, and a selection of paired wines included

Participation fee: €60
